Rammed steel posts

The standard foundation for solar parks: galvanised steel posts driven 1.5 to 3 metres into the ground, without concrete.

What it is

A pile driver rams the posts of the mounting structure directly into the soil. The embedment depth is determined by pull-out tests carried out on site before planning. No excavation, no concrete and no curing time: several hundred posts can be set per day.

At the end of the plant's life the posts are simply pulled out again and the land is returned to its previous use. This is why rammed posts are the most widely used foundation in utility-scale solar worldwide.

Ground-mounted solar modules on steel structures

Suitable for

  • Cohesive or sandy soils with sufficient load-bearing capacity
  • Sites without rock or hard layers close to the surface
  • Large, level or gently sloping areas

Advantages

  • Fastest and most economical foundation
  • No concrete, no sealing of the ground, fully reversible
  • Well suited to training local crews

What we check in planning

  • Pull-out tests on a grid across the whole site
  • Corrosion protection matched to soil chemistry
  • Pre-drilling where stony layers are found
