In short: this website sets no cookies and uses no tracking. Data from the contact form is used only to answer your enquiry. This is a translation of the German privacy policy, which prevails in case of doubt.

2. Scope and applicable data protection law
This website addresses prospective clients in Africa, Europe and worldwide. As the controller is established in Germany, we process the personal data of all visitors in accordance with the GDPR and the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG), regardless of the country from which you access the website. Where the data protection law of your country (for example South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, POPIA, or Kenya's Data Protection Act) grants you further rights, we will honour them on request.
3. Provision of the website and server log files
When you access this website, your browser automatically transmits data to the server of our hosting provider: IP address, date and time of access, page requested, referrer URL, browser and operating system. This data is stored in server log files and serves to display the website and to ensure security and stability. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest). Log files are deleted automatically after a short period.
This website is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 512 2nd Street, Suite 200, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, and delivered through its global content delivery network. Netlify processes the data mentioned above on our behalf under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, to which Netlify is certified, and on the EU Commission's standard contractual clauses (Art. 45, 46 GDPR). 4. Contact form and email
If you contact us via the contact form or by email, we process the data you provide (name, email address, phone number, company, country, project details and message) exclusively to handle and answer your enquiry and to prepare an offer. The form is transmitted technically via Netlify Forms (see section 3); to block automated submissions we use a hidden form field, not a third-party captcha service. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (pre-contractual measures) and Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR (consent). The data is deleted once your enquiry has been fully processed and no statutory retention obligations apply; for offers and contracts the retention periods under German commercial and tax law apply. You may withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future, for example by email to info@el-jena.de.
Please note that unencrypted emails may be read by third parties in transit. For confidential project documents we are happy to agree a secure transmission channel with you.
5. Cookies and local storage
This website sets no cookies and uses no analytics, marketing or tracking services. Your language selection (German or English) is stored only locally in your browser (local storage) so that it is retained on your next visit. No data is transmitted to us or to third parties. This storage is necessary for the function you requested (Section 25 (2) no. 2 of the German TDDDG) and does not require consent.
6. Fonts and external content
The fonts used on this website are served locally from our server. No connection to Google or other providers is established for this purpose. The website does not embed third-party content (maps, videos, social media plugins). Links to external websites, for example to authorities or to our main website el-jena.de, lead to the respective website when clicked, and that website's privacy terms apply.
7. Disclosure of data
We disclose your data to third parties only if you have consented, if this is necessary for initiating or performing a contract (for example to a partner company in the project country for a site visit, after consulting you), if a legal obligation exists, or if disclosure is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Apart from the hosting provider named in section 3, we use no further processors for this website.
8. Retention period
Personal data is deleted as soon as the purpose of processing ceases to apply and no statutory retention obligations, for example under Section 257 of the German Commercial Code (HGB) or Section 147 of the German Fiscal Code (AO) (six or ten years for business correspondence and accounting records), prevent deletion.
9. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data: access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) and objection to processing (Art. 21 GDPR). You may withdraw any consent given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7 (3) GDPR). To exercise your rights, an email to info@el-jena.de is sufficient. These rights apply regardless of your country of residence.
Right to object: Where we process your data on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, you may object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.
10. Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Thuringian State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Thüringer Landesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit), Postfach 900455, 99107 Erfurt, Germany. You may also contact the supervisory authority at your place of residence.
11. No automated decision-making
No automated decision-making, including profiling, within the meaning of Art. 22 GDPR takes place.
