Concrete foundations for desert and rock
Where ramming is not possible, precast concrete footings are placed on the ground or shallow foundations are cast on site.
What it is
Rock close to the surface, laterite crusts or loose, shifting desert sand can make rammed posts impossible. In these cases the structure stands on concrete feet whose weight and footprint are sized for the wind loads at the site.
The footings can be precast by concrete plants in the country, which keeps a large share of the value creation local. Where transport weight is an issue, shallow strip foundations are cast directly on site.

Suitable for
- Rocky sites and hard crusts
- Desert areas with loose or shifting sand
- Sites where the ground must not be penetrated, such as landfills
Advantages
- Independent of soil conditions
- High resistance to wind uplift
- Production by local concrete plants possible
What we check in planning
- Wind load calculation to local codes
- Ground levelling and drainage under the footings
- Sand drift and its effect on module height
